Associate in Computer Technology (University of Nueva Caceres)

The Associate in Computer Technology (ACT) is a two-year, ladderized academic program offered by the School of Computer and Information Sciences (SCIS) at the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) in Naga City, Philippines. Designed to cultivate full-stack development professionals, the ACT blends academic education with immersive industry-based training.

Program Description

The ACT program equips students with a foundational understanding of computing, programming, and application development. Graduates are trained in front-end and back-end technologies, preparing them for roles such as full-stack developers. The curriculum emphasizes versatility, adaptability, and hands-on application in building dynamic, responsive web applications.

Program Objectives and Outcomes

Upon graduation, ACT alumni are expected to:

  1. Apply both technical and non-technical competencies towards careers in computer technology.
  2. Continue enhancing their computing abilities through lifelong learning and exposure to contemporary practices.
  3. Compete globally as skilled professionals and leaders, aligned with UNC’s values and standards.

Graduates demonstrate capabilities in:

  • Independent learning
  • Effective oral and written communication in English and Filipino
  • Team collaboration and individual productivity
  • Ethical and socially responsible conduct
  • Cultural awareness and promotion of Filipino heritage
  • Complex problem analysis and application of modern computing technologies
  • Development of computing solutions relevant to context-specific needs

Industry Integration

ACT is UNC’s flagship example of industry-academic alignment. Developed in collaboration with Accenture and powered by UNC’s Professional Employment Program (PEP), it offers students an “earning while learning” model that includes:

  • A Fastlane Recruitment path leading to immediate employment with Accenture upon completion
  • A ladderized curriculum, where coursework fully credits toward a BSCS or BSIT degree, allowing completion of a four-year degree in an additional two years
  • Access to training via the Accenture Technology Academy (ATA) and a specialized technology-oriented PEP track
  • Recognition by Accenture for producing “full-package hires” — graduates ready for workplace deployment from day one

ACT represents a pioneering model in the Philippines for creating a seamless transition from technical education to employment.

Institutional Context

The ACT is part of UNC’s strategy to offer industry-ready education programs. It joins other undergraduate and graduate offerings under SCIS, including:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS)
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT)
  • Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS)

This integrated structure enables students to progress through academic levels while remaining connected to employment pathways.
